AN ULTRA RARE .44 PERCUSSION SIX-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL 'WHITNEYVILLE HARTFORD DRAGOON', serial no. 1196,
for 1847, with round 7 1/2in. barrel, nickel fore-sight, plain cylinder (serial number legible) with round locking notches (nipples replaced), flat-back open iron frame marked 'COLTS PATENT US', walnut grip with flared base, brass trigger-guard bow and articulated under-barrel rammer (all exposed iron surfaces pitted with loss to detail, rammer screws replaced and ramrod guide repaired at frame joint)
Other Notes: The Whitneyville Hartford Dragoon or 'Transitional Walker' is probably the rarest of all the Colt revolvers for a collector to find. Only 240 revolvers were produced (and not all of those were 'flat-back' models). For comparison, 1000 Walker Colts were produced, (1100 if you include the civilian version), 2850 Colt Patersons (in all models) and 299 'Fluck Model Dragoons'
