dated for 1865 but possibly converted from flintlock, with iron multi-groove rifled 14 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight to the top-tang, the top of breech signed 'FURD. FRUWHITH', French proofs, French style military lock with drum and nipple breech-block, the lockplate signed 'Tower' over '1865', the number '832' stamped forwards of the hammer, Victorian crown and double-headed eagle stamp to tail, walnut three-quarter stock with raised cheek-piece, iron furniture including braced saddle bar with integral ring and sideplate, iron nose-cap barrel-band and iron ramrod
