28in. Whitworth-steel nitro reproved chopperlump barrels, the breech ends finely carved with stylised acanthus, the rib engraved 'J. BLANCH & SON. 29. GRACECHURCH STREET. LONDON. WHITWORTH STEEL. CENTENNIAL MODEL.', bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, treble-grip action with patent gas checks, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, the 'stylised drooping bar' action, sideplates and furniture exquisitely engraved with flowing acanthus and scroll designs on a finely matted background, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, the triggerguard with a scrolling banner engraved 'MCMX', 15in. figured stock including 1 3/4in. wooden extension, repair to left overhorn, fore-end with lever release, weight 6lb. 11oz., in its brass-cornered leather case

Provenance: The roman numerals MCMX on the triggerguard denote the gun was made in 1910

Other Notes: The characteristic style and fine quality of the engraving on this gun points to the work of Harry Kell (born Henry Albert Kell) or his workshop.

Harry Kell (1881-1958), was revolutionary in his designs and is widely regarded as one of the best and most influential engravers in British gunmaking history. Amongst his many achievements, he is credited with engraving the miniature guns for H.M. The Queen's dolls house and also the one presented to King George V on the occasion of his Silver Jubilee
