A 4-BORE PERCUSSION FOWLING-PIECE, serial no. 9960,
and dated '1857', with twist iron round 35in. barrel possibly shortened for use as a pigeon gun, signed on the underside 'LEOPOLD BERNARD CANONNIER A PARIS' along with Liege proofs, octagonal section breech, colour hardened hooked breech-block with scroll engraving and moulded, fenced snail, colour hardened borderline and scroll engraved long top-tang, colour hardened borderline and scroll engraved bar-action unsigned lock of English style, walnut straight hand half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture including short-spurred heel-plate, engraved lower tang with central raised section, complex Continental style trigger-guard bow, steeple finial and ramrod throat and white-metal tipped ebonised ramrod, the whole retaining the majority of its original finish and colour (barrel finish darkened with age)
