A RARE .577 FRENCH CONTRACT PATTERN 1853 THREE BAND SERVICE PERCUSSION RIFLE FOR RESTORATION, CIRCA 1857, serial no. 393, 39 in. barrel profusely struck with Ordnance proof and inspection stamps at breech, front-sight missing, ladder rearsight, breech plug missing, border-line engraved lock dated for 1857 and engraved with the Crown V.R. cypher at tail, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock with three solid spring retained barrel bands, a feature of the second models. the butt stamped with a triple ring roundel dated 1857, the butt-cap tang engraved 'O.U. / 393', most parts stamped with the crown of F inspection stamp, complete with sling swivels, rod missing, due to the urgent need for rifles during the Crimean War the British War Dept. ordered 20,000 from a Monsieur Escoffier of St. Etienne, a rare P53 variation and worthy project.
