"October 2012

Used Gun from 1979 until mid 90's, unfortunately a spell of ill health forced this to stop. Reluctantly I have to say.

When we collected the gun from you at Poole, your brother gave us the loadings. These were used for a couple of seasons until Wally and I purchased a larger double punt. The reason for this was basically the other punt was really a single and 2 people were very cramped as well. Apart from that we would probably have drowned ourselves.
The load initially was 20oz. BB shot to 4oz of Col, Hawker course black powder. The cartridges were primed using a 38 calibre black primer. Initially we used some fine black powder around the primer, through time stopping this and just using the Hawkers course. "If its going to go bang it will".
After we started using the new punt and breaching ropes, we found that the recoil was excessive.
This resulted in us reducing the charge to 18oz and 3.5 oz of powder. the gun shot a lot smoother after that. We also found we had a lot less aches and pains the following day.
