A SCARCE 12-BORE THEOPHILUS MURCOTT 1871 PATENT 'MOUSETRAP' LEVER-COCKING PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER HAMMERLESS NON-EJECTOR, serial no. 3251, circa 1875, 30in. replacement nitro barrels, rib engraved 'WILLIAM FORD. 15. ST. MARY'S ROW. BIRMINGHAM.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, Murcott patent hammerless action, patent no. 1003 of 15th April 1871, use number 3251, push-forward underlever, manual lever safety with gold-inlaid 'LOCK'D' detail, action flats stamped 'TRADE MARK HAMMERLESS' and 'MURCOTT'S PATENT', profusely engraved with acanthus scrollwork with floral bouquets and feathered bordering, the lockplates signed 'T. MURCOTT'S PATENT' in scroll banners, 15in. figured stock (worn, cracked through and repaired at hand) including well-matched 1in. wood extension with steel heel and toe plates, weight 7lb.
