AN UNUSUAL .577 (SNIDER) MARTINI-ACTION SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 5613 (11431),
circa 1895, with round 26 1/2in. barrel, applied raised machine engraved sighting-rib signed 'W.J. JEFFERY & CO. 60 QUEEN VICTORIA ST, LONDON' together with the number '5613', the number '11431' stamped to the underside of barrel, dove-tailed beaded blade fore-sight, rear-sight of two folding and one standing leaf, borderline engraved blued action with matted nocksform, the right side with repeated number '5613', the left with a Francotte trademark and the repeated number '11431', side safe and coin-slot take-down screw, cocking indicator to right side of feed-ramp, the wrist drilled for an aperture sight (absent), finely chequered walnut butt-stock (repaired crack at front of comb), iron heel-plate, borderline engraved finger-lever with central chequered oval panel and chequered walnut splinter fore-end with schnabel tip, fair amount of finish remaining
