A SCARCE .280 RIMLESS BOLT-MAGAZINE SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 13530,
for 1911, 26 5/8in. nitro reproved barrel (in 2022, Birmingham marks for .280 RIML NE ROSS) engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER - NON-FOULING SMOOTH OVAL BORE RIFLING - LONDON' and with some acanthus scroll detailing, block-mounted open sights with folding leaf sight marked for 100/300 and 500 yds and with white metal sight lines, ramp-mounted bead fore-sight, the receiver (with thumb cutout) marked 'DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN', horn detail to rear of top tang, hinged floorplate with push button release, acanthus scroll engraving and engraved 'LANCASTER MAUSER ELEY '280 RIMLESS.' the triggerguard with the serial number, figured semi-pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, sling eyes, 16 1/8in. pull, weight 7lb. 12oz.
Provenance: The Lot is supplied with an Authentification Certificate provided by the makers, stating the rifle is recorded in their ledger as:
"280 Rimless Oval Bore Lancaster Mauser System 64" and that it was built in 1911 for Hon. E.L.R. Lloyd-Mostyn
