being a later South African registration number, commercial production dated for 1872, with five-groove 19 3/8in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, carbine length ladder rear-sight, Birmingham proofs, flip-open breech with sprung thumb-catch and marked 'SNIDER'S PATENT' together with 'VB' marks, plain lock, the bar signed 'V.R. BLAKEMORE' over 'BIRMINGHAM & LONDON', all behind 'TOWER', the tail with dated crown stamp, walnut half-stock with brass furniture, the heel-plate with central trap, iron saddle-bar to left side and retaining a chained pin-guard and its original leather rear-sight protector
