for 1864, with blued octagonal 6in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT, NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA', open iron frame signed 'COLT'S PATENT' on the left, roll engraved stagecoach scene five-shot cylinder, brass grip-straps and trigger guard with traces of silver plating, smooth walnut grip (chip to right toe) and under-barrel rammer with traces of colour, all matching numbers including wedge, in its English market oak casing with brass screws to lid, the interior lined and compartmented in green baize, original instruction label within lid and containing a Dixon flask, Colt iron double-cavity mould and period tin of Joyce caps (lid bow-tie and lock escutcheons absent)
