LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, wall thicknesses well below recommended minimum, treble-grip action, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, cocking indicators, fine acanthus scroll and floral bouquet engraving, bright and blued finish overall, 15 3/8in. figured stock, weight 6lb. 11oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather guncase with some accessories, the lid exterior embossed 'L.R. Oliphant. R.N.'
Provenance: Rear Admiral Laurence Richard Oliphant, C.B.E. 16 December 1877 -6 December 1950 was a senior officer of the Royal Navy who served during the late Victorian and early 20th-century period. Entering the Navy as a cadet, he advanced steadily through the ranks during a time of rapid technological and strategic change, as Britain transitioned to modern steel warships and dreadnought-era fleets.During and around World War I, Oliphant held responsible command and staff appointments, contributing to Britain's naval operations and maritime security efforts. In recognition of his distinguished service, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.). He ultimately attained the rank of Rear Admiral, marking a career characterized by long service and senior leadership within Britain's naval establishment.
