A .31 PERCUSSION COLT 1849 POCKET WITH 'DRAGOON BARREL', serial no. 130495,
a pre-war fantasy piece assembled from some original parts in the 1930's, with 4in. blued barrel of 'Dragoon' form, the top-flat at breech signed on two lines within brackets 'ADDRESS SAML COLT, NEW YORK CITY', un-numbered wedge, colour hardened open iron frame, blued five-shot cylinder without scene, brass grip-straps and trigger guard and smooth flared one-piece walnut grips, strong amount of period (1930's) finish
Provenance: This particular variation of Colt Pocket first started appearing in the early 1930's. Whether they were made to tease the growing number of collectors, or just produced to be 'something different' on what was a cheap to acquire pistol back in the day is not known. However, they did find their way into collections and even recognised publications and museums. They have subsequently been proved to be fraudulent, but are still an interesting piece for the collector
