one of a small number produced for training recruits circa 1914, with specially bored 4in. solid barrel signed along the top-strap 'J. BLANCH & SON, 29 GRACECHURCH ST. LONDON', applied tall blade fore-sight, Birmingham proofs with '.230' stamp, break-open frame of usual form with rear-sight notch to the stirrup latch, stepped and fluted cylinder (numbered '351'), double action mechanism, chequered hard rubber birdshead grips, the right side of frame with struck out Natal Police marks, the left with '339' over 'J', strong traces of finish
