AN 8-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. '5408',
circa 1870 and a conversion from muzzle-loading, (the 'serial number' a later addition well post conversion), 39 7/8in. nitro reproved bold twist barrel with hexagonal breech to polygonal then turned to round, the top flat engraved 'CONVERTED BY WILLIAM FORD ST. MARY'S BIRMINGHAM', Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved percussion fence, non-rebounding back-action lock with bold acanthus scroll engraving with wave bordering and signed 'STIRLING', action bar engraved to match and signed 'WILLIAM FORD' to the sides, retaining some nickel finish, 14 7/8in. stock including 3/4in. extension and 1in. recoil pad, fore-end with crosspin release and horn finial, weight 12lb. 8oz.
