A .54 PERCUSSION MODEL 1842 SERVICE PISTOL SIGNED H. ASTON, MIDDLETON, no visible serial number,
dated for 1848, with round tapering 8 1/2in. barrel, applied brass boat-shaped fore-sight, solid top-tang, 'NWP' inspector's stamp at breech, moulded nipple boss, flat bevel-edged lock signed 'U.S.' over 'H. ASTON' forwards of the hammer and 'MIDD'TN, CONN 1848' at tail, smooth walnut half-stock with brass furniture including heavy butt-cap and backstrap combined and full-length trigger guard tang, brass barrel-band with extension piece forming into the sideplate and captive iron swivel ramrod (stock with crack behind lock)
