circa 1867, 27 1/8in. black powder only bold damascus barrel with short sight flat, engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET. LONDON.' 2 1/2in. chamber, bored true cyl., short concave under rib of muzzle-loading cleaning rod style with inset sling eye, action incorporating John Emme extractor, patent no. 1460 of 25th May, 1865, carved percussion fence with slender standing breech, non-rebounding back-action island lock with ornate dolphin hammer, rotary-underlever with chequered and feather-carved knob, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, the lockplate signed 'PURDEY', 14 1/8in. figured (refinished) stock with sling eye, fore-end with crosspin release and sculpted horn finial, weight 5lb. 12oz., in its brass-mounted oak case, the lid with central brass escutcheon and flush fitting handle
