A FINE, SCARCE DELUXE .461 (GIBBS No. 1) FARQUHARSON'S PATENT FALLING BLOCK RIFLE, frame no 342, serial no 10197,
circa 1887, with 28in round barrel inscribed 'METFORD 1415' and signed 'GEORGE GIBBS, 39 CORN STREET, BRISTOL' (rubbed) with bead and block foresight and triple folding leaf express rearsight calibrated to 200yds, with further elevating peep sight to breech end, colour hardened action profusely covered with fine scroll engraving, signed by the maker on the left hand side and marked 'FARQUHARSON'S PATENT 342' on the right, together with a lever and bolted safety catch with the word 'BOLTED' in gold, highly figured walnut chequered stock and forend (shake in wood at front of comb, incorrect armoury identification plate to side of butt at heel), horn pistol-grip and forend cap, silver escutcheon engraved with the initials 'A.C.B.' to underside of stock, small vacant shield escutcheon forwards of the heel and horn heel-plate. We are kindly informed by the makers that this rifle was completed in 1884.
