A CASED 12-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, serial no. 2157,
circa 1855, with rebrowned damascus 30in. barrels signed 'W. R. PAPE, NEWCASTLE, scroll engraving at the breech-end, breech-blocks with platinum plugs, scroll-engraved top-tang, curved, flat bar-action border and scroll engraved locks signed 'W. R. PAPE' (brushed bright), dolphin headed hammers engraved with scrolls (one nose chipped), walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist with vacant oval silver escutcheon to the underside, iron heel-plate with short spur, re-blued scroll engraved trigger-guard and replacement ramrod, exposed iron surfaces brushed bright except where noted TOGETHER WITH a period re-lined mahogany case, compartmented and lined in green baize, brass escutcheon to lid engraved 'ST JOHN ELLIS'

Provenance: We are kindly informed by the holder of the records that this shotgun was completed with 30in. barrels in April 1873 for a Mr. Gibson of Warwick.
