circa 1855, with browned twist iron 30in. barrels rifled in three grooves, the flat top-rib signed in gothic script 'ALEXr. HENRY 8 SOUTH ST ANDREWS ST EDINBURGH', the front portion of the rib cross-hatched and matted, blade front-sight, express rear-sight with four folding leaves, each engraved with the range and inlet with a platinum centre-line, the colour-hardened breech-block with engraved bands and scrolls to the top, platinum vented plugs, fully scroll engraved top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved bar-action locks (much colour remaining) signed 'ALEXr. HENRY' below the hammer and featuring engravings of deer and stags to the front of both and a prowling tiger to the tail of the right and a lion on the left, slab-sided fully scroll engraved moulded hammers with dolphin heads and blued sliding safeties behind, chequered full pistol-grip half-stock, blued iron heel-plate engraved with scrolls and a deer to the top-spur (strong traces of original blued finish), gold shield-shaped vacant escutcheon to the top of wrist, engraved and moulded iron pistol-grip cap with scroll engraved central cap-box, engraved trigger-guard tang, the bow with a further engraving of a running deer, engraved finial, scroll engraved ramrod throat, plain thimbles and possible original ramrod COMPLETE WITH its manufacturers mahogany storage case compartmented and lined in pale brown embossed leatherette and containing a full complement of accessories including the bullet mould, Sykes extra quality powder flask, Dixon snail capper, turn-screws, percussion caps, nipple keys and cleaners, loading rod, wad-punches and pots for caps, nipples and patches, the whole in a remarkable state of preservation and retaining much finish and colour
