for 1862, almost certainly cased and engraved in Belgium, with silver-plated 8in. barrel signed 'ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA', engraved band and scrolls to muzzle, an arrow bound with scrolls engraved to top of barrel forwards of the address, deep acanthus scrolls on a matte ground engraved to the sides of breech, stepped cylinder with scroll engraving to the forward half, the narrower portion engraved with diamond cross-hatching, the whole cylinder with traces of gilding, fully border and scroll engraved silver-plated open frame cut for shoulder-stock, blued screws, gilded hammer and trigger, the hammer engraved in the form of a mythical winged serpent (gilding faded), border and scroll engraved silver-plated back-strap with vacant dedication panel, the top also engraved with a U.S. shield device, engraved panel to heel and trigger-guard plate, scroll and ribbon engraved gilded under-barrel rammer (faded) and horn grip carved with diamond cross-hatching and decorated with white-metal pins, the centre of each grip-side with circular white-metal escutcheons, TOGETHER WITH its Continental market oak brass-banded storage case, lined and compartmented in pale blue velvet and containing a full suite of accessories including a silver-plated powder-flask (lightly rubbed), a silver-plated scissors ball and bullet mould, two turn-screws, a nipple-key, one-piece cleaning rod, a screw-lidded cap-pot and a nickel oil-bottle
