PHILIPPE SELIER (DESELIER) LIEGE
A FINE PAIR OF 16-BORE FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUNS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1710, with 44in. blued two-stage swamped barrels, silver star-burst fore-sights, silver eared rear-sights retained by a band, carved bands at the intersection, the breech-ends triple-struck with brass-lined makers marks, acanthus foliage engraved brass top-tang-covers, brass border engraved faceted locks, the central portion engraved with acanthus scroll inhabited by monsters, signed 'PHILIPPE SELIER' under the frizzens on top of the locks, scroll engraved hammers with faceted blued top-jaws, the front face of the frizzens with relief carved and chased grotesque masks, walnut half-stocks carved with acanthus scrolls to the rear of the top-tang, the front of the comb, the rear of the under-cut cheek-piece and around the ramrod throat, large brass butt-caps with embossed edges and scroll engraving and numbered '1' and '2' respectively, border engraved raised brass trigger-guard tang, moulded bows with acanthus finials, turned faceted applied ramrod pipes, original brass-tipped ramrods, much original blued finish remaining where appropriate
