for 1820, probably originally tube-lock with later conversion to percussion cap-lock, re-browned 29 1/2in. twist-iron barrels with London proofs and makers mark of 'C.L.' for Charles Lancaster, the top-rib signed 'JOSEPH MANTON, HANNOVER SQUARE, LONDON', acanthus engraving to rib-end, platinum plugs (one replaced with white-metal), fully engraved top-tang, border and sparse acanthus scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'JOSEPH MANTON, PATENT' some of the scrolls terminating in a bird's head, scroll engraved dolphin-headed hammers, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, scroll engraved iron furniture, martial trophy engraved to the trigger-guard bow and replacement ramrod
