29in. Whitworth-steel nitro barrels (No.2 reproved), ribs engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL' and '1' and '2', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, self-opening actions with removable striker discs, automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, arrow cocking-indicators, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening, No.1 with reblued screw heads, safety and striker discs, 14 5/8in. well figured stock No.1, 14 1/2in. stock including 2 1/4in. wooden extension No.2, weight 6lb. 1oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 8oz. (No.2), No.2 fore-end wood with slight cracks, in their brass-cornered oak and leather case with original charges label
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this pair was completed in 1912 for a G. Clark. The records also show that the makers restocked and lengthened No.2 gun in January 1963.
