A CASED PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1800, with laminated octagonal slightly swamped 10 1/2in. barrels signed on the top-flats on two lines 'H.W. MORTIMER, LONDON' and 'GUN MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY', applied fore-sights, engraved band at breech, engraved top-tang with shallow notch rear-sights, gold lined touch-holes, flat bevel-edged lockplated signed in script 'H.W. MORTIMER', stepped and pointed tails engraved with a stand of flags, bolted safes behind the swan-necked cocks, roller frizzens, walnut full-stocks with chequered bag-shaped grips and carved pommels, spurred trigger guard bows (spurs probably added later), single set triggers and horn-tipped ebony ramrods (one pistol with age crack behind and below lock), traces of finish and colour and complete with their walnut casing lined and compartmented in coarse green baize, the lid lining inset with a Thomas Stothard designed parchment Mortimer trade-label with the 89 Fleet Street address and including the original loading rod, turn screw and scissors ball mould
