A 12-BORE RIGBY & BISSELL 1879 PATENT SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 16496,
circa 1896, 30in. nitro reproved barrels, rib engraved 'John Rigby & Co. 72. St. James's Street. London.' in gothic script, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, treble-grip action incorporating J. Rigby and T. Bissell patent rising third bite, patent no. 1141 of 1879, use number 672, carved leaf fences, slender toplever, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, dipped-edge lockplates, profusely engraved with scrolling acanthus work, brushed finish, 16in. stock including 1 1/2in. wooden extension, fore-end wood with some slight splits, weight 6lb. 13oz.
