A MOST UNUSUAL BRITISH RIFLE OFFICER'S 1827 PATTERN SWORD FOR THE LEFT HAND SIGNED HENRY WILKINSON & SON, serial no. 12041,
completed in 1862, with double edged straight 32in. blade etched only with the maker's details on the left side at hilt and an etched Star of David proofmark on the right, Wilkinson number to back edge, regulation pierced iron gothic hilt reversed for the left hand, wire-bound sharkskin grip, half chequered back-strap and complete with its steel scabbard and letter of provenance


Provenance: Armsresearch.co.uk have provided a letter and excerpt from the Wilkinson records showing this sword was ordered by Col. Hogg (probably James Macnaughton Hogg, 1st Rifle Guards) for a Major Nicholson. The record notes it was ordered as a "left hand rifle with spring-proved blade". (sic)
