A RARE 14-BORE FULMINATE IGNITION ROLLER-PRIMED 'SCENT-BOTTLE' SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, serial no. 23,
circa 1812 and probably a conversion, with 'fine twist' (so marked on the underside) round 32in. barrel marked 'LONDON' at breech, the breech-block stamped with a small number '23' concealed by the lock, borderline engraved bevel-edged lock with stepped and pointed tail and signed 'FORSYTH & CO, PATENT' below the scent-bottle roller-primer, the number '23' repeated inside the lock, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture including finger-spurred lower tang and brass-tipped wood ramrod, external surfaces worn with some pitting throughout
