ARMY & NAVY C.S.L. 12-BORE BOXLOCK NON-EJECTOR, serial no. 3995, for 1885, 30 1/8in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels (in 1985), the rib engraved 'ARMY & NAVY C.S.L. LONDON.' and '1', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. full choke in both, early Anson & Deeley treble-grip action with conical cocking levers, removable striker discs, slender toplever engraved '1', automatic safety with blue enamelled 'SAFE' detail, fine acanthus scroll engraving with ornate bordering and central floral bouquets, the underside with a ring of flowers, light patination and some squeezing, 14 5/8in. figured stock including 7/8in. wooden extension, bolstered fore-end wood and grip-catch release lever, weight 6lb. 6oz. with paperwork, in a canvas and leather case
Provenance: A copy of the entry from the Army & Navy ledgers (included with the Lot) records the gun as having been sold to an E. Spurrell Esq. on the 10th September 1885 at a cost of £25.15.0
