A MAGNIFICENT COGGAN-ENGRAVED GARNITURE OF FIVE ROUNDED BAR 'ROYAL' SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTORS, serial no. 41181 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5,
the set comprising a pair of 20-bores, a single 16-bore and a pair of 12-bores, all with 28in. nitro chopperlump barrels, ribs scroll-engraved at the breech ends and gold-inlaid '1' to '5' and 'THE BRITISH GAME BIRDS SET OF FIVE 1993', the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 33. BRUTON STREET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke in all, rounded bar actions, automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, hand-detachable lockplates (the hand-detachable release catches supplied but not fitted), gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguards, the triggerguards gold-inlaid '1' to '5', the fences finely engraved with strawberry fruit and flowers, the actions and furniture finely engraved with scrolling floral and acanthus motifs, the toplevers with fine representations of woodcock, snipe, grouse, partridge and pheasant respectively, each gun themed with a single bird, No.1 with woodcock, No.2 with snipe, No.3 with grouse, No.4 with English partridge and No.5 with pheasant, their lockplates and undersides exquisitely engraved with the chosen species in flight and on the ground - nesting, foraging or at a lek, the locks signed 'P. COGGAN', bright finish overall, with 15 1/4in. exhibition grade walnut stocks, including leather covered recoil pads, weight 6lb. 1oz. (20-bores), 6lb. 9oz. (16-bore) and 7lb. 2oz. (12-bores), all cased in their fitted brass-cornered oak and leather double and single cases to suit.
The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were ordered in September 1990 and were completed in 1993.
