AN UNUSUAL 6.35mm (.25) CRANK-WOUND SPRING-OPERATED GALLERY AIR-RIFLE, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
circa 1880, possibly German or American, with heavy octagonal 20in. smooth-bore barrel, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, adjustable standing notch rear-sight, twist sideways to load action, plain cylindrical air-chamber with aperture for the detachable crank-handle on the right-hand side, long top-tang with provision for peep-sight (missing), Swiss-style butt with raised cheek-piece, Swiss heel-plate, nickel scrolled trigger-guard with hogs-bristle set trigger (at fault), three-quarter length fore-end carved with a lions mask, action at fault
