circa 1860, with blued tapering 36in. barrel (lightly faded), the short-rib at breech signed 'METFORD'S PATENT 282' above 'GEORGE GIBBS BRISTOL', the top of barrel signed 'PARKER FIELD & SON, 233 HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON', stud at muzzle for detachable ramrod guide, large dove-tailed threaded fore-sight block with thumb-wheel locking screw, folding ladder rear-sight, squared patent colour-hardened breech-block with scroll engraving to the top-flat with central 'EM' monogram, engraved platinum plug with scroll engraved surround, moulded side-bolster, fully border and scroll engraved long top-tang fitted with a base for a vernier tang-sight, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'PARKER FIELD & SON', border and scroll engraved dolphin-headed hammer with fishscale engraving to spur and chequered thumb-piece, chequered walnut full pistol-grip half-stock, chequered iron heel-plate with scroll engraved details, circular silver escutcheon to underside of butt, moulded horn pistol-grip cap, blued border and scroll engraved trigger-guard tang and bow, chequered trigger-blade, engraved dumbell barrel-key escutcheons, rounded horn fore-end tip and no provision for ramrod, the whole retaining much original finish and colour TOGETHER WITH its 'Parker Field & Sons' oak storage case, compartmented and lined in green baize and containing a two-piece loading rod with detachable ball handle and detachable loading tip, a leather tie-on butt-pad, a false muzzle with detachable nickel guide, a 'BARTRAM & CO' white metal powder flask with patent nozzle and marked 'EXTRA QUALITY', a turn-screw, a spring clamp, a nickel snail cap dispenser signed 'SYKES', a brass nipple primed engraved with the monogram 'MHB', a tin of Parker Field wads, a blued patch guide, a bone nipple pot, sundry cleaning items and three patch cutting profiles and COMPLETE WITH its black leatherette sight box marked in gold-blocked letters 'METFORD RIFLE SIGHTS, G.
