BIRMINGHAM.', the side marked 'HENRY'S PATENT RIFLING' and the breech end with 'RIFLE FOR NO.2 CASE', long range express sights, eight leaves with white-metal inlaid sight lines and marked from 100 to 800 yards and folding tangent sights marked to 1500 yards, the underside with provision for cleaning rod (present), early Deeley & Edge (improved American 1874 patent) transition model action with one piece triggerguard / underlever with breech block mounted trigger, manual sidelever safety, single-legged extractor, the action and furniture profusely engraved with bold scrolling acanthus with beaded borders, the action with central scrolling banners engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. LIMITED LONDON' on the left, with small 'Deeley & Edge Patent' detail, on the right a vignette of a running roe buck with acanthus scroll and beaded ribbon borders, the underlever with shell motif at tip, top tang with later aperture rear sight, retaining traces of original finish, fore-end with cross-pin fastening and fully engraved white metal finial, 14 1/4in. stock with sling eye, white metal or nickel plated heel and toe plates fully engraved with floral and acanthus scroll motifs, weight 9lb. 5oz
