the interior lined in claret goatskin leather, the lid interior gold tooled with a single line detail and central representation of a James Purdey & Sons gun case trade label with the triple Royal Warrant and the Audley House address, fully fitted and compartmented to accommodate a full range of Purdey named accessories spanning 12-bore through to .410 calibres, the upper level comprising four pairs of nickel-plated snapcaps, four two-piece cleaning rods, four nickel-plated chamber brush heads, (each specific for 12, 20, 28 and .410 calibres), a horn and nickel-plated chamber brush handle, three horn-handled turnscrews and matching horn-handled brush, nickel-plated oil bottle and striker pot, the removable cleaning rod tray revealing a second tier containing leather pouches with individual cleaning heads, each pouch gold-tooled with the calibre designation, the removable turnscrew tray also revealing a second tier, the whole housed in fine leather attache style case with leather reinforced corners and with brass lock, brass handle rings and strap buckles
Provenance: Purdey's have kindly confirmed that this exceptional set was produced as a one-off to celebrate the bi-centenary of the company. The fine accessories were made by the renowned toolmaker Mike Marsh, the case internals by Vincent Rickards and the external stitching was undertaken by Allan Gillespie.
