A GOOD CASED 14-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN WITH LEFT-HAND LOCK, no visible serial number,
circa 1860, with round laminated 31 1/2in. barrel signed 'R. WATMOUGH, 13 BLACKFRIARS ST. MANCHESTER', bead fore-sight, short sighting rib at breech, the breech-block engraved with a standing pheasant and a narrow band, platinum plug, fully scroll engraved top-tang, colour hardened border, scroll and gamescene engraved left-handed bar-action lock signed 'R. WATMOUGH', scroll engraved hammer inhabited by serpents, walnut straight hand half-stock chequered at the wrist, blued iron furniture with scroll and gamescene engraving, horn fore-end tip and brass mounted ebony ramrod, the whole retaining a strong amount of period finish and in its maker's mahogany storage case, lined and compartmented in green baize, pale yellow 'Watmough' trade-label inside lid and including a suite of period accessories
