A .50-70 (GOVT) SHARPS METALLIC CARTRIDGE CONVERSION OF THE MODEL 1863 CARBINE, serial no. 78976,
circa 1868, with blued tapering 22in. barrel (markings rubbed and illegible), block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, colour hardened falling-block action (markings illegible), colour hardened lock with redundant pellet primer and signed 'C. SHARPS' PAT. OCT. 5TH 1852' and 'R.S. LAWRENCE PAT. APRIL 12TH 1859', walnut butt-stock with iron furniture including heel-plate and saddle-bar and ring, walnut splinter fore-end, refinished at point of conversion and retaining much of that finish
