A 12-BORE POWELL 1864 PATENT BAR-IN-WOOD LIFT-UP TOPLEVER ROTATING SINGLE BOLT SNAP-ACTION HAMMERGUN, serial no. 5310,
for 1873, 30in. nitro reproved damascus barrels (in 1998, loose), the rib engraved 'WILLIAM POWELL & SON. 13. CARRS LANE. BIRMINGHAM' (rubbed), 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, incorporating William Powell patent lift-up toplever, patent no. 1163 of 7th May 1864, use number 1510, bar-in-wood, fluted teardrop fences with Powell patent 'Loaded' indicators, patent no. 1055 of 1869, rebounding bar-action locks with swept hammers of hare's ear form, border and acanthus scroll engraving, patinated finish, 14 1/2in. stock including steel buttplate, the left side with plaque engraved 'B.P. BROOMHEAD. SHEFFIELD.', fore-end with Powell provisional patent fore-end release catch, patent no. 2193 of 24th June 1873, weight 7lb. 3oz.
