A COMPOSED PAIR OF WESTLEY RICHARDS 16-BORE 1864 PATENT SINGLE-BITE SNAP-ACTION BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMERGUNS, serial no. 1129 and 1150,
circa 1871, 28in. sleeved damascus to steel nitro barrels (in 1973 No.1 and 1974 No.2), the ribs engraved 'PATENT. JOSEPH HARKOM, 32, PRINCES STREET, EDINBURGH.' and '1' and '2', the breech ends with acanthus scroll detailing (all refreshed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and full and 1/4 and 1/2 choke, incorporating Westley Richards improved single-bite toplever snap-actions, patent no. 2623 of 22nd October 1864, toplevers engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT.', rebounding sidelocks, bar-in-wood, the fore-ends meeting at the knuckles in crab joints, border and bold acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright and blued finish overall, 14 5/8in. figured stocks, with insert repairs to the heels, including horn buttplates, fore-ends with cross-pin release catches and horn finials, weight 5lb. 13oz. in a brass-cornered oak and leather guncase
