A RARE .44 (EVANS) WHITNEY-PHOENIX SINGLE-BARRELLED TARGET RIFLE, serial no. 16,
manufactured circa 1862 and possibly originally a 'Schuetzen' model, with heavy 30in. octagonal barrel, the top-flat signed 'PHOENIX CAL .44', dove-tail for a fore-sight, folding notch and ladder rear-sight, the fore-sight replaced with the front mount for a long blacked brass telescopic sight, recoloured receiver with flip-open breech hinged on the right, central hammer, the left side of receiver with vernier screw base for the telescopic sight, replacement beech stock of target style with large heavy Swiss-style iron heel-plate, guarded trigger and walnut splinter fore-end with moulded iron tip
