AN 8-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED LIVE PIGEON GUN SIGNED HETHERINGTON, NOTTINGHAM, no visible serial number,
circa 1860, with browned laminated octagonal to sixteen-sided to round 32in. barrel, bead fore-sight, carved girdle at the intersection, the top-flat at breech signed 'HETHERINGTON, NOTTINGHAM' (rubbed), squared patent breech with traces of colour, platinum plug, borderline engraved top-tang, borderline engraved bar-action lock with dipped tail and traces of colour, the bar signed 'HETHERINGTON', en-suite hammer (some pitting to lower edge), chequered walnut half-stock with iron furniture including domed grip-cap to the full pistol-grip, moulded horn fore-end tip with no provision for ramrod (small inlet repair forwards of lock)


Provenance: This shotgun is probably the work of John Hetherington Junior, who took over his father's business (established 1817) in Nottingham in 1844, trading until 1864
