circa 1883, serial number to underside of barrel only, with additional number 5629 (also to inner of fore-end wood), 28in. nitro reproved barrel turned from octagonal to half-round, matted top flat, the sides with re-engraved or later 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY ST. LONDON.', four times proofed, original London black powder (calibre unknown, likely rook), Birmingham nitro .410 (1904-25), Birmingham nitro 28-bore (1925-54) and Birmingham 28-bore nitro for 2011, 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. 1/2 choke, round bar action with percussion fence, the action flat with the trade mark E quality four bullet mark, rebounding back-action lock, border and acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish, 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock with pistolgrip-cap and buttplate, Hackett snap fore-end with horn finial, weight 4lb. 14oz.
