Provenance: a letter is accompanied with this gun:

HISTORY OF THIS LOVELY QUALITY SHOTGUN....

It was made by a member of the famous gun Family, Charles Rosson, then trading at 1, Rampant Horse Street, Norwich. This address is proudly engraved down the central spine between the barrels and fine engraving. The name C. S. Rosson being engraved in many areas

It is clearly numbered 3356 on the underside. indicating their 56th gun manufactured in 1933. The green baize lining is now some 80+ yrs old and shows how little the gun has been taken out. The main premises at Rampant Horse Street was destroyed by bombing during the war and all existing records destroyed.

It is not known who first purchased it or anything about it prior to Mr Greenfield purchasing it after 1940 whilst seconded to the RAF as a Dental Surgeon from 1939-1946 but its life seems to have been always close to its Norwich origins.

Mr Greenfield lived in Hendon, North London at the address shown on a small cardboard box still inside the Gun case.. He said after his secondment to the R.a.f. he was posted to Scampton and Lincolnshire from 1939 onwards not too far from the gun makers address.. From there he was posted to North Africa, Sicily. India and Calcutta and occasionally took the gun with him. Shooting was not a serious hobby for him and it appeared he had little use of

He married and had later lived near me in Great Bookham Surrey where in his final years he developed Alzheimer's and a serious Urine infection causing his death. Not long before his death he sold the gun to me (2001) but explained he had no original sale papers or other provenance.

After qualifying he treated patients privately in Hendon and then at Harley Street, London, W.1.and later round the corner in Queen Anne Street for some further 25 years. He was well respected and

also in his final years engaged in teaching in the London Dental Schools.

Since the gun came into my possession I have fired only a few cartridges myself and now at the age of 82 and unable to actively shoot locally, have decided, sadly, It must find a good home. The gun is in its original wooden box with leather straps and the key to the case being found inside an envelope.

have recently had the gun examined and been advised it is in good order but expect the new proud owner will send it for a"strip and clean" as you would arrange for any second hand car to be fully serviced and checked before use.

I would be happy to hear from the new owner in the UK or abroad. my telephone number is +441372 459706

Mr Stuart Bailey.
