A FINE CASED PAIR OF 25-BORE FLINTLOCK RIFLED OFFICERS PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1800, modified from duelling pistols with 8in. possibly slightly shortened octagonal barrels engraved with bands at the muzzles, dove-tailed fore-sights, scroll engraved breech-blocks with gold lines and touch-holes, both barrels with India service acceptance stamps 'APX-107-EX-75' and 'APX-108-EX-75' respectively to the left hand side of barrels, both barrels initialled 'J.P' on the bottom flat, fully engraved top-tangs, flat, slightly curved border engraved locks signed 'JOSEPH MANTON LONDON' sliding safes behind the scroll engraved hammers, rainproof pans, rollers to the bevel-edged frizzen springs, walnut half-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts, replaced re-blued engraved pillar and shell trigger-guard bows and tangs, set-triggers, fore-ends with engraved iron fore-end caps, half under-ribs and later captive iron ramrods COMPLETE WITH their original makers mahogany storage case, compartmented and lined in green baize with 'JOSEPH MANTON' parchment trade label to inside of lid and containing a number of period accessories including a three-way flintlock pistol powder flask, a brass-tipped mahogany cleaning rod and an iron scissors ball mould
