28in. nitro chopperlump barrels, ribs with bold acanthus detailing and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 13 BRUTON STREET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', manual safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, hand-detachable lockplates with gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguards, the actions, lockplates and furniture carved in low relief with bold scrolling acanthus and floral motifs, surrounding and invading woodland game scenes, gun No.1 with a brace of pheasant on the left, a fall of woodcock on the right and a pigeon on the underside, gun No.2 with a covey of partridge on the left, a paddling of duck on the right and a walk of snipe on the underside, signed 'K.E. PREATER', bright finish overall, 14 3/8in. highly-figured stocks including 1 1/8in. leather covered recoil pads, weight 6lb. 2oz., in their lightweight leather motor case with some accessories
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were ordered on the 18th January 1972 and finished at the factory on the 16th January 1975 (finisher Frederick Brown). The guns were ordered as a pair of '16-bore Royal de Luxe game guns' and to have 'special de luxe engraving by K. Hunt'. The price quoted for the pair completed was £3900. The guns were ordered by a Clarence Preston Esq. but the records list the guns as having been 'sold on commission to K.F. Still'
