Provenance: The P53 artillery carbine was approved as early January 1853 although the first contracts were not signed until October 1853 and they were with the British trade. Due to delays in supply, the War Department in September 1855 placed an order for 2000 carbines with the Liege trade. The Belgian contract arms were made to the same high standard as British made arms, they can be easily identified by the omission of Tower on the lockplate and the use of an style italic date only, together with Liege proofs and the triple ring and dated roundel
