dated for 1878, with 28in. octagonal barrel, block-mounted silver-faced fore-sight, open rear-sights with one folding leaf, white metal sight lines and marked 100 and 200, Deeley-Edge patent slab-sided falling-block action engraved with borderlines and scrolls around a central depiction of a male lion on the left and a sable on the right, safety at the triggerguard with chequered thumb catch, the lower left side of action signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON', the right with 'DEELEY-EDGE PATENT' in a scrolled banner, nocksform marked '1878' within a triangle, chequered fore-end with moulded side-cheeks and cross wedge fastener with white-metal oval escutcheons, rounded horn tip (crack to left upper edge of fore-end wood), strong traces of finish
