SAMUEL LOVE, LONDON
AN 18-BORE FLINTLOCK 'QUEEN ANNE' PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1725, with triple-staged round iron 6 1/2in. barrel, cannon muzzle, the top of breech marked 'LONDON' and with engraved band, separate top-tang, moulded side-hammer action (trigger return spring at fault) with swan-necked cock and frizzen with recumbent 'L' shaped spring with signature 'S. LOVE' below, walnut bag-shaped grip with white metal grotesque mask butt-cap, guarded trigger and horn-tipped under-barrel wood ramrod
Provenance: Samuel Love served his apprenticeship to Robert Harvey in 1702, becoming free of the Gunmakers Company in 1710. In 1713 he supplied his proof piece and then traded from various addresses within London until his demise in 1738
