for 1884, with octagonal 28in. barrel, the top-flat marked 'WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS NEW HAVEN CONN USA' over 'KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29 1866 OCTOBER 16 1860', folding ring fore-sight with bead and blade, 'Africa' rear-sight of folding ladder with six further graduated flush folding blades, each with platinum centre-line, calibre designation and addition South African registration number (WR18606) to left side of breech, blued receiver with period London proofs, automatically retracted sliding dust-cover operating on an integral rail, colour hardened central hammer, model designation to top-tang (blanking plug for an auxiliary peep-sight absent), chequered walnut pistol-grip butt-stock of approximately 3X grade, smooth iron shotgun heel-plate, horn inlay to grip, single set trigger (set currently not functioning), chequered walnut fore-end of similar grade to butt, full-length magazine tube and eyelets for the Winchester Sling (sling absent), strong traces of finish and colour
