possibly an Irish registration mark, the rifle circa 1835, with fine damascus octagonal profile 29 1/2in. barrel, the raised top-rib signed in gilt script 'MANTON, LONDON', small bead fore-sight, shallow standing notch rear-sight, moulded shallow fenced snails and gold line at breech, Belgian proofs, border and acanthus scroll engraved long top-tang extending to front of comb, border and acanthus scroll engraved bar-action hump-backed locks, en-suite hammers, the noses chisel-carved and moulded in the form of mythical beasts, skip-chequered walnut half-stock cracked through behind locks and plated at hand (chequering rubbed smooth), the wrist carved with the mask of a green man, cast and engraved white metal furniture including hinged heel-plate concealing apertures for two charges and white metal tipped ramrod
