AN 8-BORE FLINTLOCK FOWLING PIECE WITH EARLY BARREL, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
circa 1790, the barrel possibly late 17th century and 47in. in length, of two-stage form with deeply moulded bands at the intersection and further moulded bands at muzzle, applied fore-sight on a teardrop-shaped mount, broad shallow sighting groove to the engraved top-tang, armourer's mark at breech, rounded plain lock with swan-necked cock and feather tipped frizzen-spring, walnut half-stock cut back from full and with skip-chequered wrist, brass furniture, two iron barrel-keys, horn fore-end tip and applied brass thimbles directly to the barrel, missing ramrod
